Jeanne Graces Girl Guides' Celebration

PENANG, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Penang branch of the Malaysian Girl Guides Association (PPPM) celebrated the World Thinking Day in an atmosphere of pomp and splendour here today.

Datin Seri Jeanne Abdullah, the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi graced the occasion.

She took a jeep ride ahead of girl guides who rode bicycles and took trishaw rides from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Convent Green Lane to SMK St Xavier at Lebuh Farquhar, a distance of 5km.

Jeanne waved to girl guides lining-up the routes. Among the association leaders who took the trishaw rides were PPPM commissioner Datin Zalilah Mohd Taib.

At SMK St Xavier where some 2,500 girl guides took part in the celebration, Jeanne presented gifts to several welfare and disabled people homes.

In her speech, Zalilah said the 90-year-old association would carry out a campaign on HIV/Aids awareness among girl guides in conjunction with the theme of the celebration.
